Fantasy Hockey can be traced to the days of the APBA sims, however, it never really took off until Bethesda Softworks' Hockey League Simulator in 1987.  A few years later, when the NHL started it's latest expansion with the San Jose Sharks, a new version, HLS2, was released.  This was compatible with Wayne Gretzky Hockey 3.  You could run your team, trade players, and now watch them play.  Bethesda has since dropped support for HLS2, however, a group of dedicated individuals created useful tools like the League Manager (Tim Chan).  As bugs were discovered with HLS2, another group created a new software bundle called FHLSim (Fantasy Hockey League Simulator).
