Overview of Iaido Iaido is the art to pull and cut the sword, in one, combat crucial movement. It goes back on the sword combat schools of the Japanese Samurai. However, in the course of the centuries these exercises (jap. Kata) lost their martial purpose. Instead of weapon in the fight, the sword became a mirror-image-ritual instrument of control and training of the self. Two major styles: Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu - founded by Hasegawa Mondonosuke Eishin (17./18.Jh.). Japanese Federation: Zen Nihon Iaido Renmei. Muso Shinden Ryu - founderdby Nakayama Hakudo (1869 bis 1958).
