The two-colour Rule
-did you know why this was introduced?
Table tennis rackets have a variety of surfaces: spinny, dead, knuckle-ball effects and others. Some players would have one variety on one side and another variety on the second side. Before the "two-color" rule, if a player had two different varieties, and the same colour on both sides, it was extremely difficult for the opponent to know what to expect. The player could also "twirl" his racket in mid-point (or before a serve), making for even more confusion. This led to many errors and poor spectator appreciation.
With the "two-color" rule an opponent player knows which side is hitting, be it the red side or the black side, and he can make the appropriate adjustment shot. ..from Bill, our TT Librarian

Serving Strategies use top-spin, side-spin, back-spin or no spin at all. Returning such serves requires a player to carefully observe how the ball was served. Playing to your opponent's weaknesses in returning serves is a good strategy to use.
