International
Petanque is controlled by International Federation of Pétanque and Provençal
Game (FIPJP) which was created in 1958. It now has around 600 000
licensed players in 52 national
federations. The Federations with websites in English are

The
Pétanque World
Championships started in Spa (Belgium) 1959.
There is an open
class, a Juniors class and a Ladies class. . France won the championships
more times than any other country. The 2002 championship is being held in Grenoble in
October. Other International championships are the European
Championship and Cup, the Nordic
Championship and the North Sea Tournament.
