For decades, the game of baseball has been recognized as the "National Pastime" for the United States. For more than a century, baseball has been a part of U.S. culture, providing entertainment, and memories that live on from generation to generation. Every spring, Americans look forward to heading to the ball park, smelling the grass and dirt, grabbing a hot dog and cracker jacks, and singing, "Take Me Out To The Ball Game."

Recently, the game of baseball has become more global. Players from all over the world have moved into the Major Leagues, bringing the game of baseball to all new heights. Some of the biggest stars in Major League Baseball have come from countries like Japan, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

The World Baseball Calssic (WBC) brings the best players in the world together to compete for victory and national pride. The World Baseball Classic highlights hundreds of the greatest players in baseball and has sprouted teams from as many as 16 different countries in the past. Players like Barry Bonds, Albert Puljols, and Ichiro Suzuki have each competed in the past, with the hopes that they could leave the WBC claiming that their country is the best at baseball.

With a tournament of this magnitude, baseball fans from all over the world travel to see their team battle to be the best. The World Baseball Classic is definitely a must see event for baseball fans and sports enthusiasts from all walks of life.

 2006 World Baseball Classic LogoThe 2006 World Baseball Classic was hosted in Japan, Puerto Rico, and a handful of cities throughout the United States. The first rounds were played simultaneously with Spring Training in Phoenix and Orlando in the United States, playing a few exhibition games with MLB teams. Some big match-ups included Team USA vs San Francisco which gave Barry Bonds a chance to play against his own Giants team. The Asian qualifiers also got to play against the San Diego Padres and The Seattle Mariners.
