The Rose Bowl game is played each year at Rose
Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California and is only one of many events in the
Tournament of Roses each year. When the tournament of roses began it was a
festival and included only a parade, foot-races, a polo match and
tug-of-war games. In 1902 the tournament included the first ever national,
post-season, collegiate football game. To this day the Rose Bowl is called
"The Granddaddy of All Bowl Games". In 1947 the tournament committee
signed an agreement with the Pac-10 conference of college football. The
Rose Bowl has been played with sold-out attendance every year since. Every
four years the Rose Bowl is also the BCS (Bowl
Championship Series) National College Football
Championship Game. The other three years it is part of the BCS and the Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl or Sugar Bowl
host the championship game.
